Starting a grazing dairy farm. Would be leasing facilities that are currently unused, and marketing grass-raised milk. The cows would be on pasture year-round, except during severe weather. This business would be a low-capital dairy farm, with minimal equipment being purchased. Because grazing is used to feed the cows, high cost supplemental feed is not needed. Planning to start with 60 cows, and gradually expand to 80 cows (dependent on securing more grazing land). Cows would calve seasonally (in the spring to match grass growth) in blocks (all calving at the same time, roughly within 6-8 weeks). Replacement heifers would be raised by a custom grower, so that all resources/labor can be concentrated on the money-making milking herd.
