About Benson
Status: The Organic Food Bank For Value Chain Fundraiser

Summary

We are a self help group called Jabez and we are from Bungoma county. We work in the areas of sustainable Agriculture, value chain, trainers of trainees among others.Through a multi-stakeholder, participatory, inter-disciplinary, pro-poor and gender-sensitive approach, activities undertaken in this framework span from seed selection and enhancing cultivation, post-harvest,food bank, value addition, marketing to surveying, collecting and conserving genetic diversity. Capacity building supports all aspects and includes training farmers by researchers, demo farming, empowering them with seed capital as well as lobbying to establish a supportive policy to environment. Value chain development will directly improve the livelihoods of poor farmers by increasing yields, decreasing losses during processing, increasing bargaining power, and improving connection to markets. The promotion of highly nutritious species will also generate nutrition and health benefits for targeted small scale by contributing to development of more complete and diversified diets. Improved market channels for neglected and underutilized species can furthermore contribute to strengthening food security by supporting on-farm conservation. By use of organic system that involves: Organic pesticides, Organic fertilizer, Inter cropping, crop rotation, Integrated Pest Management, double dug beds, Animal husbandry i.e Exotic chicken/pigs, Mixed cropping,Agroforestry,Water harvesting, cooperative farming through formation of small scale organic SACCO/ organic super market and value chain industries for tomatoes, soya beans,amaranth,maize,poultry/pig feeds.
We are therefore we want to establish a demo farm here in Bungoma as a contact point for training small scale farmers from rural areas on organic Farming.
